Chatham County Farmland Preservation Plan
On March 1, 2010, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners adopted a Farmland Preservation Plan that includes several components to help retain farmland and forestland, and boost the county’s agricultural economy. The plan is voluntary and does not require farmers or other residents to participate.

The county’s Agriculture Advisory Board worked with the Chatham County Center of the NC Cooperative Extension Service, the Chatham County Soil and Water Conservation District, and the Triangle Land Conservancy in developing the plan with grant funding from the state’s Agricultural Development and Farmland Preservation Trust Fund.

The Farmland Preservation Plan includes two major sections, one focused on Agricultural Land Use and one focused on Agricultural Economic Development, and includes land protection and economic development strategies related to farms and forests in Chatham County.

The Farmland Preservation Plan is posted on the county's website and accessible at: http://www.chathamnc.org/Index.aspx?page=1416.
